Display of Power – Point of the Week – EVERYTHING & NOTHING

EVERYTHING AND NOTHING – At first I was going to write my column on the amazing accomplishments Michael Jackson achieved during his brief life. I was doing this in an effort to educate the younger generation on why Mike was way more than just a singer and the reason the world is so stricken by the loss. Those who seek true power should take time to research and educate themselves on one of the last living legends this generation will ever see. I’m going to take it a bit further and talk about something else. As I try to wrap my mind around how to express in words what we are experiencing with the loss of this complex individual, I begin to understand that Michael was way more important in our lives than we have ever realized.

This man was clearly the most recognizable face on the planet. Mike made us laugh, cry, fall in love, get over heartbreaks, wear weird clothes, get our freak on, and dance the night away! He made us dream of far-away places, he scared us with zombies, made us face the truth about those who are poverty-stricken, tried to save the planet and teach us that race is not black or white. He gave us a peek into an extravagant lifestyle of wealth, set records that other artists will forever attempt to break, created a standard of excellence in performance, showed us the face of unhappiness with the lengths at which a person will go under a knife, and generally made us question the price of fame.

My memories of Michael Jackson

Power Journal 11 Comments »

It was a busy New York workday in 2000. My cell rang. Famed music producer Rodney Jerkins had called my people and said, “Michael Jackson is a big fan of FUBU. Can Daymond come down to Sony Studios right now with some clothes? Mike wants to meet him.” Needless to say I was there in 5 minutes.

I walked into the studio I’d visited many times before, but this time something was different. There were a couple of large wax figures in the studio, as well as toys and stuffed animals all over the place. As I took a closer look, there was candy – M&M’s, gum balls, lollipops – sprinkled in various places. The candy wasn’t placed in candy dishes either; it was sprinkled on shelves, equipment and many random places.

Display of Power – Point of the Week – Failure

FAILURE…This week, think about how many times you have failed in life. I don’t care who you are or where you come from, we have all had the feeling of failing at something one time or another. The question is, did you let failure stop you? If so, why?

I’m sure when you were a child and failed, you tried and tried again, till you succeeded. Your first attempts to walk, talk and eat as a child certainly all ended in failure, but you never gave up, because as a child you had no fear of embarrassment.

As many of us grow older, we try less and less so we can avoid the embarrassment that we may face. In all reality, what may be more embarrassing is never trying at all and never advancing in life. Successful people fail more than they succeed, because they know the only way to advance in life is to test the boundaries, time and time again.

Those with “TRUE POWER” live by the words of Henry Ford: “FAILURE IS MERELY AN OPPORTUNITY TO MORE INTELLIGENTLY BEGIN AGAIN.” I wish you a great week. Questions and comments are welcomed at here or follow me on Twitter @DaymondJohnFubu
